For 17 months the camper rots in the driveway.

So next weekend we drag her out again, this time to northeast Indiana. We plan to go to JE Roush Fish and Wildlife Area (Roush Lake).

Roush Lake the enigma.

The Indiana DNR says, "Roush Lake was constructed in 1967 and is one of the three Upper Wabash Valley Lakes operating primarily as a unit with Mississinawa and Salamonie Lakes to control flood waters along the Wabash River Basin and secondarily with other lakes downstream in reduction of lower Wabash and Ohio River floods."

Four years ago, when we bought the camper and started this pathetically ignored blog, we took the maiden voyage to Mississinawa.  It was a great late March trip to a great park (which might get chronicled if I actually take time to catch up on four years of blogging remiss).  Salamonie, a few months later, turned into a total train wreck.   It's a great park with some great features, so long as you're not at the height of a heat wave and low water drought.

The enigma of Roush:  Mississinawa and Salamonie remain manned and maintained by a staff of Indiana park rangers.  Roush seems abandoned, many facilities locked behind gated and barred roads. Why?

Hey Indiana!  Why did the parks at Roush Lake get shut down?

So presently we plan to camp Fri-Sun (9/23-9/25/2016) at an honor-pay campsite up on the cliff, north side of the lake.  No reservations possible; the DNR website says "The campground has 41 electric sites and 14 primitive sites. All camp sites have fire rings and picnic tables. Camping is open all year on a first come first serve basis."  <http://www.in.gov/dnr/fishwild/6358.htm>

Join us if you love the outdoors!  Definitely not the place for y'all creeper predators.  We have a major firearms weekend on tap...
